    I have a 4/2006 130i E87.

What is that can be done to the engine (valvetronic) in order to gain some power?

Right now i have only K&N filter + remap. Exhaust is 100% standard.

What would you reccomend to make the car (a lot) faster?

Any camshafts available for valvetronic engine? Or... ??

    Let me know your ideas.

    Karl (Rome, Italy)

Ciao Karl, do you have a manual shifter?
Then you can use a shorter final drive, which makes you can much quicker in all gears. But the top speed will be degraded. Engine can not be upgraded seriously ... just a few HP or NM with Chiptuning ... no price relation though

no, he cant. the shorter final drive is only available for the LCI 130i.
seriously, there is no cheap way to improve the performance of the engine. with both the BMW Performance intake and exhaust system i gained ~ 10 HP, and strangely it appears that the quaife limited slip differential has less loss in the powertrain then the original BMW part (is that even possible?). i guess a serious ECU remap can add another 10-15 HP but thats it. all other modifications are way too expensive.

I agree with the others. You could go to Noelle and get yourself an upgrade to 306 HP which is done by massive mechanical changes within the engine itself.

But this costs more than 10k (in €). You could also install a high performance header from supersprint (also quite expensive 1.3k) and high performance exhaust system with metall cats.

As a result you are better of buying a 135i instead of spending loads of money into the tuning. Furthermore, the 135i has much more tuning potential in terms of engine performance than the already pretty much maxed out 130i engine. Turbo engines are a lot easier and cheaper to tune than non-turbos.

    Think about it 8)

    Hello,

there are a few Tuner, who bring this engine to roundabout 290ps, but in a very expensive way. If I´m right, then they put a new cylinder insert into the (engine)motorblock with 6 new pistons and a new crank to increase the range of the pistons, so they can reach 3200ccm. Additionally they adapt the software und some more little things. If you ´re thinking of installing a compressor, my opinion is to say: You shouldn´t do that, because of the high pressure in the Engine. Maybe there are some Specialists, who knows exactly what they are doing with a compressor engine (for example, to lower the Compression). For me, it is much too dangerous.

    Buona sera, Karl,

there are several ways to make a(ny) car faster - are you just looking for a better acceleration or an increased top speed or is it track time you are after?

If it's about going faster around a track, I would recommend to change several things first before touching the engine... for acceleration from low speeds there are also some changes possible besides power upgrades (tires, gearbox, limited slip differential)

Hi Karl, you can gain around 20 HP and app. additional 15 kms of top speed by just chip tuning the car, mainly because of the 250 kmph limiter will be removed. Anything which goes beyond that would become quite costly (mechanical changes, cams, exhaust systems etc.).

    Cheers,
    Andreas

Dear All, thanks for you replies.

I am a trackday addict so i already made these mods:

    - quaife atb diff
    - bilstein b16 pss9 suspensions
    - K-mac front adjustable camber plates
    - H&R uprated swaybar kit
    - BMW Performance Big Brake Kit + ProjectMu HC+ pads
    - Toyo R888s on OZ Ultraleggera wheels
    - K&N airfilter
    - ECU remap

Previously i had the Gruppe-M airbox and the BMW Performance exhaust but i sold them due to the fact that they were giving almost none "noticeable" power but only a great sound (like an M3) and i needed bigger brakes (they are grrrrreat!).

So the car handles great at track but it lacks some "extra kick".

You can see some videos here:

    http://www.youtube.com/carlettosan

I agree with some of you who say that in the end it's cheaper/easier to buy another car (this is what i already thought) but needed an extra confirmation that there are no other option than doing some 10K eur mods to achieve the 306ps (which i am not willing to spend).

    Maybe a 135i M would be best or a Z4 M Coupe' (which i love very much).

Too bad cause i like my 130i very much!

    Greetings!

    Carlo

PS - DSC and all the other elctronic stuff are always 100% off!
