    Hi, Guys, greeting from Shanghai,

I will have my honeymoon in Germany for about 10 days, and I could use some travel advices.

I have booked our tickets, and we will arrive in Frankfurt. Then we pick up the car and drive to Heidelberg, Badenbaden, Munich, Prague in the Czech, then go to Berlin, fly back home.

Can anyone give me some advices of what places worth going, or what road give exciting drive experiences? I'd love to see places with great natural views, or historical.

besides, since we are 2 pair of coupes, I booked a 320D wagon. However, I'm not sure it can provide enough room for fill our luggages. I also need some advice of this too.

    thanks,,,

    Larry

    Hi Larry!

    Some things I'd suggest:

Heidelberg -> Castle, very nice place, but I hate driving around Heidelberg ;).

I haven't been to Baden Baden, but it ought to be a nice town. But more important, if you like nice natural views and driving roads, you have to go for the Schwarzwaldhochstraße, which is basically a scenic route starting in Baden Baden and crossing the black forrest in southeast direction. You should be able to combine that with your drive to munich just fine.

For the rest of the trip: Not my areas, wait for others to post.. :).

Regarding that luggage-issue: I think that might get a bit close with 4 adults and luggage for 2 weeks in an E91. I strongly recommend renting 1 class higher (A6/5-series/E-class, if its not a price-wise overkill). A few weeks back I had an Audi A6 Wagon, which provided just enough space for 3 adults and luggage, combined with more than enough comfort and power.

    Here my suggestions:

Munich: BMW world, olympic park, Frauenkirche, Altes Rathaus, Hofbräuhaus and Oktoberfest (17.09.-03.10.2011)

Berlin: TV-Tower, Brandenburger Tor, Reichstag (i recommend to go to this place early in the morning, because a lot of people want to go there), Siegessäule, Ku´damm, Potsdamer Platz, Checkpoint Charly (really historic), Alexanderplatz

the car: in my oppinion you should ask for a touring from BMW, because you have a lot more space for luggage.

have a great time in germany and don´t drive too fast

you should check out the mountains when you visit munich. very impressive.
it takes just about one hour with a car.

    Hi Larry,

taking partly your general route - Baden Baden - Munich into account

    Baden Baden - Casino

then as the suggestion above the Schwarzwaldstrasse across the Black Forest.

I would the head towards Konstanz - on lake Constance and cross with Ferry to Meersburg and drive along the northern shore of the lake with a beutiful view of the alps across the lake.

From there head into Bavaria - to Schloss Neuschwanstein

    and then on to Munich...

Others are likely to have better suggestions onwards

If you need more details - drop me a PN / email

    Cheers

    Thomas

PS - am moving in 14 days to your hometown - Shanghai for the next 6 month

Yep, Schloss (castle) Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau are one of the favorit Points in Bavarian. You have to be there, if you're in Bavarian. There are thousands of people every day, from japanes till americans. But don't forget to buy your tour tickets for the castle itself by the parking lots. Because on the castle itself, you don't get one.

    Have a nice trip.

Don't drink and drive. Drink + drive +accident (doesn't matter which fault), you loose. No coverage from the insurance companie.

    Hi Larry,

On the way from Frankfurt to Heidelberg you drive by "Heppenheim" on the Bergstrasse. The historic town center is very popular with tourists from your region. You could also drive down the "Bergstrasse" which starts just south of Frankfurt and takes you straight to Heidelberg.
When you are around Baden Baden you should cross over into the Elsass, anyware around Hagenau is very nice. Great food and Wine. As others have posted, do go into th Black Forrest, great driving and good people. Here you also will find good restaurants all along the way.
In Munich you must go to the "Englischer Garten", for me the best place there. The "Viktualien Markt" is also a must for me.

Be sure to stick with a Diesel on your rental, gas can get expensive here in Europe. You should also upgrade to the next larger size, would be a lot more comfortable for the back seat passengers. You also need to watch out for speed limits, german police are rarely any fun and will charge you an arm and a leg.

Have a great vacation, and if you need any further help just drop a note to the forum. As you can see, we enjoy helping others out.

    Eddie

I 'm also need to start organizing the bits, put into a plan now.

    cheers,
